What is lye soap?
Lye (sodium hydroxide) is a necessary ingredient in all real bar soap. When oils and lye are combined in a process called saponification, a chemical reaction occurs that transforms them into soap. No lye remains in the finished bar - it is completely consumed during the process.
Is lye soap safe?
Yes. The lye is fully neutralized during saponification, leaving behind a gentle, skin-safe bar. I cure every batch for several weeks after production to ensure the process is complete.
Do your soaps contain lard?
Some do, some don't. I clearly label all lard soaps, and they're listed in the Lard Soaps collection. If you prefer animal-fat-free options, shop the Lard Free collection, which includes vegan-friendly bars.
Are your soaps vegan?
Several of my bars are vegan. Look for the Lard Free collection for animal-fat-free options. Note that some bars contain honey, milk, or other animal-derived ingredients - check individual product listings for full ingredient lists.
What ingredients do you use?
I use traditional, high-quality ingredients including organic extra virgin olive oil, organic extra virgin coconut oil, raw shea butter, raw cocoa butter, and food-grade lye. Some bars include lard, honey, milk, or botanicals. Full ingredient lists are on every product page.
How long will a bar last?
With proper care, a full-size 4.5oz bar typically lasts 3-5 weeks with daily use. To extend the life of your bar, keep it dry between uses. I recommend a well draining soap dish to further extend the life of your soap.
How should I store my soap?
Keep your soap dry between uses. Use a draining soap dish, or hang it in an organic cotton soap pouch. Avoid leaving it sitting in standing water, which will cause it to soften and dissolve faster.
What is the scrub level on your soaps?
Some bars contain natural exfoliants like clay, coffee, or botanicals. Each product listing notes the scrub level. For modified exfoliation, pair any bar with an organic cotton pouf or soap pouch. This will create a barrier between the exfoliants and your skin, or add a gentle exfoliation to non-exfoliating soaps.
